Meranti Plywood is typically dark reddish or purplish brown in appearance and commonly has white resin streaks. Meranti is typically easy to work, but any interlocked grain can be difficult to bend. Dark Red Meranti is reported to have very poor steam-bending properties. Some species of Meranti may have a slight blunting effect on tools due to small levels of silica present in the wood. Meranti Plywood glues, stains, and finishes well.
Meranti is sometimes used as a look-a-like for Mahogany when properly stained and finished. Meranti is sometimes used for cabinet work, mouldings, and boatbuilding and is good for general construction uses. All of our Meranti Plywood is housed at Weber Plywood & Lumber Co. in Orange County, CA.
